: Did you see M's comment on Facebook about Tfl?
赤ペン先生: Aha...

: Listen. "Tfl has bought the Picadilly line some fancy train." Guess what? It says "You had me at fully air conditioned."

赤ペン先生: Wooo that's nice! You know where that expression came from right? "You had me at something something" It came from the movie "Jerry Maguire".
: What expression?
赤ペン先生: In the movie "Jerry Maguire" that Renée character used the phrase "you had me at hello" to Tom Cruise character. That was the very first time that phrase was used.
: Ok... But I still don't understand what it means...

赤ペン先生: You remember the scene that Tom Cruise showed up when Renée and all the ladies having the book club or something right? Then Tom started convincing Reneé to come back to him or something. Then she said "you had me at hello." It means that I was in love with you from the moment I met you and the moment you said hello.

"You had me at" is a jocular way of "I was yours at the very moment you..", or "You had my heart at the moment..". The original was "You had me at 'hello'", meaning "I was in love with you from the moment I met you"; you didn't have to say anything more than "hello": I was immediately enchanted.

jocular  おどけた、滑稽な、ひょうきんな

"Show me the moneeeeey 💰💰💰💰💰!!" しか知りませんでした😅。

(私は NFL player Rod 役の Cuba Gooding Jr. さんとその奥さん役 Regina King さんが良かったかな😄。Cuba さん、めっちゃ笑えた😂。)

そんな有名な、おまけにアレンジきかせて使える様な言い回しがあったんですね。

"You had me at hello." は分かったのですが、Tfl の方が微妙に分かるんだけど、イマイチ使い方がまだよく分からない😬。

🇮🇹 Q: What does "You had me at chocolate" mean?

🇺🇸A: it means, when talking about something that you were convinced at what it was about. for example, "hey, there's a chocolate shop that just opened downtown, do you want to go this weekend?" so you had me at (whatever it is) means you're excited to go based on what it is.

👆なるほど。

こっちの説明の方が私には分かり易い。

使える日は来るかしら😀。
