英語で冗談って理解するのが難しいんだよね🧐

毎朝の愛犬とのお散歩は近所の公園。

今朝は誰が来てるかなぁ。

○○さんに会ったら何を喋ったらイイかなぁ。

誰かに会ったら上手くお喋り出来るかなぁ。

ああ、今朝は英語でお喋り嫌だなぁ…。誰にも会いたくないなぁ…。

毎日色んな気分で公園まで向かいます。

数日前、その公園でＣさんに遭遇。

Ｃさんとはすっかり顔馴染みでたまに一緒に歩いたりもします。優しいし、ユーモアもあるので私も緊張せずにお喋り出来る方。

Ｃさんが私を見るや否や冗談を言い始めました。

冗談を言っている風なのは分かったのですが、口調も早く、冗談への心の準備もしていなくて、終始全く理解出来きず、とりあえず笑って誤魔化す始末😓。

会話中、分かった振りをして誤魔化す事はしょっちゅうあるのですが、正直その度に結構自己嫌悪にさいなまれます😞。相手に対しても申し訳ない気持ちになりますし、分かった振りをしてヘラヘラしている自分が羞しく、情けない気持ちにもなります。

私は他の方と一緒だったので、冗談を言い終わったＣさんは、そのまま行ってしまいましたが、きっと彼は私が彼の冗談を分かって笑っていると思ってるだろうなぁ…と、少しモヤモヤした気分になってしまいました。

当然私がそんな思いでいた事など露知らずのＣさんに、また今朝会う事が出来ました。

Me: Can I be honest with you? When we met the other day, you said some joke to me. Sorry, I know you don’t remember and I just can’t say what you said. Because I didn’t understand what you were talking about. I am ashamed to say this but I was faking. With my English level sometimes I can understand but sometimes can’t. Especially jokes are hard for me to understand.😓

C: Oh no. Don’t worry about it. I totally understand that. And sometimes French people don’t get our jokes either. 😂 

Me: Yeah... But French people fully understand what the joke is about and don’t get the punchline. In my case I have no idea what is going on.😓

C: Some said “how did we say “go back to the drawing board” before we had a drawing board?” If you don’t know this phrase, you don’t get it. Going back to the drawing board” means that the first plan didn’t go well so go back to the discussion like using the drawing board and make a different plan. Sometimes you have to know the background to get the jokes.
