Reference を知らないと分からない表現

我が家の可愛いひとり娘ちゃんは、クリスマス休暇に自宅に帰って来ていたのですが、休み中も勉強で大忙し。

私達が娘とゆっくり過ごせるのは、夕食と夜の映画／ドラマ鑑賞の時間だけ。

"The Crown season 4" から始まり、"Queen's Gambit", "His Dark Materials", "Selma", "Hachi", "君の名は", "The Grinch", "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri", "Madagascar (holiday version)", "Little Women, "Death to 2020", "Groundhog Day"...と、色々観ました〜。

最近は "Bridgerton" と "The Handmaids's Tale" を鑑賞中であります。

これ👇は "Little Women (2019)" の一場面。

マーチ家の三女ベスが裕福なローレンス家にあるピアノを弾かせて貰っています。

それをローレンス氏がひっそりと感慨深く聴き入っている場面です。

ここで、旦那様が "Wow. It's opulent." とポツリ。

ほ〜、こう言う豪華な家とかを Opulent って表現するのね〜。

娘のリクエストで観る事になった２０１９年版の "Little Women" ですが、娘の感想は👍👍で高評でした。

私は…むむむむ…🙁

子供の頃にアニメで慣れ親しんでいる私的には特にキャスティングが気に入りませんでした👎👎。

子供時代のエイミーは７〜１０歳位の年齢なはずなのに、同じ女優さんが大人になった２０歳位？のエイミーも演じる為、若者が幼児を演じている様で、子供時代のエイミーはとにかく違和感満載。

私のお気に入りのジョーも、Saoirse Ronan 嬢じゃないんだよね。

また、私は現在と過去を行ったり来たりするこの映画の形が嫌でした。

９４年版映画の方が断然良いかなぁ。（キャスティングもこっちが👍‼︎）
テレビ版は録画したまままだ観ていないのですが、せめてキャスティングに違和感がない事を願います。

こちら👆"Groundhog Day" は、旦那様とのこんな会話がキッカケで観る羽目（😂）になりました。

旦那様: When people ask me how I am doing, I often answer it's like Groundhog Day. You know that expression right? You must have heard it many times. 
私: Nope. I don't know. I don't remember. What does it mean? 
旦那様: Whaaat? I used that expression to people many times and I thought you knew. You don't know Groundhog Day? 
私: I have no idea.
旦那様: I can't believe it. You don't know the movie? It's a comedy in 90s that Bill Murray was in. It was quite funny and popular. He kept having the same day over and over which is Groundhog Day. That is a real festive day in the US. When you say it's Groundhog Day, it means you repeat the same day. But if you don't know the movie or the reference, you can't understand the meaning. Can't believe you haven't seen it. We've got to see it!

こんな映画がある事も、そんな日が存在する事も知りませんでした。

つまらない訳ではないですが、面白かったか？と聞かれたら、面白かったかなぁ…😐って感じで、私からはおススメはしない映画ではあります😅。

先月２５日に Netflix からリリースされた period drama/regency romance/alternative history "Bridgerton" 。

お友達の D 嬢と web chat をした時にもチラッとおススメされたドラマなんですが、その時にこのドラマを "bodice-ripper" と表現していました。

赤ペン先生: Bodice is a tight-fitting vest that laces up. Like a corset. It's not easy for men to take off bodices from women. Bodice-ripper is a romantic novel or movie that contains scenes that guys want to rip off bodices passionately to have an intimate time with women.

娘ちゃんにはお気に召さなかったのか、Episode 2 まで観たところでフェイドアウト。

私達夫婦は Episode 6 を観終えましたが、私が何だか面白くなってきたな〜と思い始めたのはシーズン半ば過ぎたくらいからです。

ただ、初回から素晴らしい衣装を楽しませて貰っています。

衣装は本当にスッゴい素敵です‼︎

"Bridgerton" は、１８世紀初頭のロンドン社交界を舞台にした soap opera/telenovela って感じでしょうか。

"Bridgerton" にとって代わり、娘と一緒に観始めたドラマが "The Handmaid's Tale" 。

こんな時にこんな暗〜い depressing ドラマは観たくなかったのですが、既にシーズン２も後半に差し掛かってます。

赤ペン先生: What do you think of "The Handmaid's Tale"? 
私: It's quite depressing. 
赤ペン先生: I can't buy that happened in the US. C'mon. Some people in the US refused to wear masks. How can people give up their freedom like that? That show is so contrived. You remember that word? I used it for Sherlock, remember? 
私: ... (Darn it. I can't remember...) 

皮肉にも contrived はここで学びました。
