『二卵性双生児』の話題が思った以上に大盛り上がり！
今朝はDouglas と一緒にお散歩。
Douglas は、近所に住む看護師Ｂさんの愛犬のお世話もしていて、今日はＢさんの愛犬ちゃんもご一緒。
Douglas の愛犬君と、Ｂさんの愛犬ちゃんは同い年で、とっても仲が良く、２匹並んで歩く姿は本当に可愛らしい😊。
Me: B is such a charming lady. I like her.
D: Yes. She is great.
Me: How long have you two known each other?
D: For three years. We got to know each other when we both got dogs at the same timing. We met at this park with dogs and found out we are neighbors.
She lives with her mum and sometimes her mum's sister visits them.
Me: I think I met B's aunt.
D: They are twins but they don't look alike.
Me: What is the opposed word of identical?
D: Non-identical?
Me: No, no. There is a term for it. I forgot.
いつも二卵性双生児の言い方を忘れちゃうんだなぁ…。
何だったっけかなぁ…🤔。
中学の時？高校の時？覚えてないけど、英語の教科書に一卵性と二卵性双生児の話が載ってたんだよなぁ。
でも、物知りのDouglas が知らないなんてね🙄。
そしてこの日の午後は、今度はJasmin とお散歩。
Douglas 同様、Jasmin も話のネタが豊富なので楽しい😃。
J: I tutored non native English speakers once.
I usually don't want to tutor more than one kid but this mother begged me to teach her two 10-year-old sons at the same time because they are twins.
One was taller than the other.
Me: What is the opposite word of identical?
J: Non-identical.
Me: There is a word for it but I don't remember.

今朝は散歩の後、すっかり忘れていましたが、今回は帰って直ぐに『二卵性双生児』を英語で何と言うか調べました。
早速Jasmin に報告だよ。
Jasmin も知らなかったよ〜😳。意外〜😳。
彼女からは更にこんな発言が。
"Being a feminist, I strongly reject this phrase!!"
Jasmin の反応が興味深かったので、Douglas にも報告してみる事に。
反応が知りたい。
辞書で"fraternal" を調べると、日本語では
- 兄弟の
- 友愛会 (fraternity) の
- 二卵性の
日本語で『兄弟』と書くと、性別関係なく『きょうだい』の場合があるので、Jasmin から
「え〜、双子が女の子２人ならどうなの？または女の子＆男の子の双子の場合は？」
「フェミニスト的にはその言い方は断固反対‼︎」
と返信してきた時、ちょっと意味が分からなかったのですが、英語の "fraternal" 意味を知ると、彼女の反応の意味が分かりました。
英語では『（100％）男の兄弟の』って意味。
確かに、北米では大学などの男子寮の学年社交団体をフラタニティって言いますもんね。

んん…そうと知れば、確かに何故『二卵性双生児』を英語で『fraternal twin』と言うのか不思議な気がします🙄。
ちなみに、赤ペン先生にも同じ質問をしたところ、やっぱり同じ回答（not identical）で、正しい言い方を伝えると、「あ〜、言われてみれば、そうだね〜。」と言ってました。
たかが『二卵性』で、なんだか大盛り上がりしちゃいました〜😁。
