英語人の間で超嫌われてるらしい単語があるって知ってました？

今夜のデザートは、Douglas の奥様からお裾分けで頂いたクリスマスケーキ。

今朝彼のお家に、旅行のお土産を渡すのと、借りていた本 "Mother Tongue" を返しにお邪魔した際、奥様から頂きました。

このクリスマスケーキは、日本のそれ（こんなの🎂）とは違い、イギリス式のもので、簡単に言えばフルーツケーキの様なケーキ。

Douglas 家のクリスマスケーキは、レーズンのみが入ったケーキでしたが、しっとりしていてとても美味しかったです。

かなりお酒も入ってる様でした。

私: Wow!! This is really good. It's moist and not too sweet.

娘: Did you know that many people hate that word "moist"? 
私: I heard about that from my friend. Especially British people don't like that word.

娘: No. Not only British people. Many people hate it. 
私: Do you hate the word "moist"? 

赤ペン先生: I have no problem with it.

私: So... If people don't like to hear "moist", which word can we use to describe this cake? 
娘: Wet? Soaked? 
私: Eww... 
赤ペン先生: Not dried?

私: Humid?😂😂 Damp?🤣🤣 Doesn't sound good to describe this tasty cake!!

But what is wrong with "moist" anyway? 

私も以前に友達から聞いた事がある、この『"moist" って単語がめっちゃ嫌われてる』話。

私が "moist" って聞くと、今回の様に『このケーキ、しっとりしてる〜。』とか『あ〜、今日はお肌がしっとりしてる〜。』てな感じで、どちらかと言えば良い意味で使いたくなる単語なんですけどね🙄。

英語人の皆さんはどうも違うみたいです。

英語人の皆さんは、この単語を耳にすると、何か気持ち悪い汚い物とか行為を想像しちゃうみたいですね。

不思議〜😦。

もし私が"moist" を使った文章を考えろと言われても、気持ち悪い文章は思いつかないんですけど…。

我が家の英語人、赤ペン先生は全くそうは思わないし、そんな話初めて知ったとの事。

"Do you hate the word moist?"

"What is the word that you like the least?"

と聞いてみると面白いかもしれませんね。
