Preaching to the choir

過去最強クラスの台風が日本🇯🇵に接近中だとの事😨😨。

ネットニュースに『最大級の警戒を』『特別警報級台風』『津波の様な高潮の恐れ』などなどと書いてあるのを見ると、この台風がどれだけ危険なのかが窺い知れます。

悲しいかな、何らかの被害が出るのは避けきれないレベルの台風の様なので、ただただその被害が最小限である事を願うばかりです🙏。

私: A really strong typhoon is approaching Japan now. 
赤ペン先生: Well I hope companies won't force their employees to come to the office when it's too dangerous to commute. 
私: I guess it depends on the job. If you have to go, you have to go. 
赤ペン先生: Yeah but thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, it proves that many can work from home.

私: That's what I said. Especially since we are always facing the possibility to have a massive earthquake in Japan, it's good to have a choice to work from home. 
赤ペン先生: I still can't understand that mentality that just because some go to the office even though a horrible disaster is happening, others are practically forced to do the same.

私: I totally agree. Some are very stubborn to stick with the old customs.

赤ペン先生: I know it's "Preaching to the choir" but I can't stop saying that. 
私: Preaching to who?

赤ペン先生: Preaching to the choir. Look it up.
私: "preaching to the choir is "釈迦に説法" in Japanese. I see. Do you know 釈迦? 
赤ペン先生: シャカ…シャカ…⁈あ〜、お釈迦様ね！

私: 説法する means to preach. Interesting. Preaching to different people.

赤ペン先生: Preaching to the choir means speaking to or trying to persuade someone who already agrees with you. 

ネットニュースを見ていたら『コンビニにデリバリーする仕事してますが、日曜と月曜休みになりました。』と言う方もいらっしゃって、人命優先の会社もあって良かった〜と思いました。

でもその一方で『うちの旦那は会社近くのホテルに宿泊して、月曜にはホテルから出勤。』と言う方もいらっしゃいました。

世の中には多種多様の仕事があり、職種によっては、こんな誰も経験した事のない様な台風が来ようとも出勤せざるを得ない仕事もあるでしょう。

今回も将来も、出来るだけ多くの企業が、こういった甚大な被害を出しかねない自然災害時には、休める様になると良いです。

新型コロナウイルス蔓延で、在宅勤務をする方も増え、今後の働き方に何らかの影響がありそうですが、自然災害時に在宅勤務出来る体制またはその選択肢があるのは良い事だと思います。

そして何よりも、希望する方が気兼ねする事なく、気持ちよく在宅勤務出来る社会になると良いですね。

何はともあれ、職種によって出勤を余儀なくされる皆さん、どうぞお気をつけて。
